Our Position on COVID-19
While we recognize the importance of safety pertaining to COVID-19, we also know chances are high that a pup will develop irreversible issues if it isn't exposed to all the things it may encounter in its lifetime, ideally, by the time it's 14 weeks old. Additionally, troubling behaviors, not only in puppies but in older dogs as well, should be addressed before they become concerning habits, and later, serious problems. Waiting until the COVID-19 lockdown is over may very well be too late to help in these situations. For reasons like these, we are currently open for business, and adhering to social distancing guidelines.
Service Dog Certification

Our Service Dog Certification process will run your dog through a series of exercises to help evaluate whether or not your dog meets the requirements of civil codes pertaining to service dogs. A few, but not all, of the exercises and items we test for during the certification process are listed below.

  • Sit and lie down when instructed.

  • Stay when approached by a stranger.

  • Stay amidst distraction including strangers, moving objects, and other animals.

  • Walk with owner on a slack leash. Dog should stay with owner when owner turns, speeds up, slows down and stops, even amidst distraction including strangers, moving objects, and other animals.

  • Come when called amidst distraction including strangers, moving objects, and other animals.

  • Perform a task related to owner's disability.

  • No mouthing of, or jumping up on strangers.

The certification process is not an obedience competition. As such, a reasonable amount of verbal instruction, visual cues, and physical prompting is permitted for each exercise, however, if excessive effort is required to maintain control of the dog, we will not be able to provide documentation certifying the dog as performing the requirements of a service dog, and you may need additional training.

Training with us is not a requirement for a Service Dog Certification. If you think your dog needs training, and you'd like to train with us, click here.

If don't already have a dog, and are interested in a Dog Acquisition Consultation, click here.
